MUDGE’s Musings
Sometimes it’s simply appropriate to inject more than one’s opinions.
Today we inject yr (justifiably) humble svt‘s personal life.
The photo shows the proud graduate, child no. 3, shortly after the commencement ceremony at Columbia College Chicago late this afternoon, Sunday, May 18, 2008.
This is a unique arts oriented institution that marches literally to a different drummer. Big band jazz accompanied the processional and recessional, including a high energy arrangement of “Walk This Way,” yeah, that Aerosmith “Walk This Way,” as the faculty degree granters made their way onto the stage. Quite an entertaining afternoon.
It was a ferocious eight-year battle to get to this day, a battle that financially will still be a part of our lives for long years to come, but our different-learning son is seen here proudly grasping his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia’s School of Media Arts, Audio Arts and Acoustics department.
The handsome guy posing with our graduate is his big brother, whose determination to pull his kid brother through some terrible times (only some of which were academic) was instrumental in getting us to this day. Older brother literally made new plans when crisis hit; moved to Chicago when remaining in Boston might have been his better choice, and braced up and tutored kid brother in a way that Mom and Dad had no tools to do.
So, well done, congratulations and thanks to both of you.
(Parenting is not for sissies.)
It’s it for now. Thanks,

So let me get this straight. The kid with the funny hat pictured above has BOTH a great dad AND a BA?
This is an embarrassment of riches!
Congrats all around…
The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer
Thanks, ClapSo, you give me way too much credit! Glad to have you back! –mudge
