I empathize with your friend’s experience. Now it’s more common, but nearly eight years ago, on vacation in Japan, saw my first instance of a bicyclist talking on a cell phone. Several years back a life long friend and US Steel employee related is trip to China as time travel. USX instead of making steel was consulting to China on how to make it. He was sent to look at the new plant. He flew to China, took a bus to the train station, a train to the end of the line and he swears, a donkey cart to the plant in the middle of nowhere. China is an enigmatic force to be reckoned with.
